The 1995 BBC miniseries is probably, as things stand, the most popular adaptation of Pride & Prejudice. Ehle was able to successfully capture that part of Elizabeth's personality that makes her such a likable, and yet still original, character.
Knightley is playing Elizabeth in the upcoming 2005 adaptation of Austen's beloved novel. Though she has a large fanbase and there are many other talented actors working in this film, there has been a large amount of debate regarding the casting choice made for the character of Elizabeth particularly. Many feel that, while Keira has done well in other roles, she is not quite right for portraying Elizabeth Bennet.
I recently got the opportunity to watch this version and was pleasantly surprised... to an extent. It wasn't quite so horribly inaccurate as I'd heard, but there were minor things that bothered me. Overall, I did enjoy the casting very much -- I'm just still partial to the 1995 BBC.
There are many characters that, while not exactly accurate to Austen's novel, are still loosely based on Elizabeth Bennet. Even though this fanlisting does not cover such characters, I wanted to have a section for them as well.
A 2004 film directed by Gurinder Chadha (of Bend It Like Beckham fame), Bride & Prejudice is basically the modern Indian equivalent of Austen's work. 'Lalitha' retains many of Elizabeth Bennet's captivating qualities.
